Although virtual environments may seem like mere stages, they serve as the backdrop for the heart-pumping action that takes place in the game. Not all of it — there are some humans that don’t care enough about you to want you dead — but about 90% of the living organic beings on this rock either want to eat you, or to see just how many parts they can subdivide you into before you stop twitching.
It’s a bit of a change from the lifeless rock we landed on all those years ago.
Except it wasn’t really lifeless, was it?
Whatever the end goal of the ancient Primori race was, part of it seemed to involve covering every square kilometer of the moon with as many underground biological research facilities as possible, and filling them with strange and vicious creatures.
Upon investigation, it became clear that the facilities we saw were involved in bioresearch. Inside, we found aliens that were not particularly intelligent. The internal layout suggests that they were captives and were part of experimental test subjects.
These creatures had undergone physical modifications in an attempt to enhance their bodies and lifespans. Most appeared to be grown using variations of the same genetic code, while others seemed to be clones or imitations of creatures from distant worlds.
Although the creatures seemed unhappy with their confinement, they remained controlled and contained until the destruction of our home planet, Hyperia, and the subsequent devastation of the moon's surface.
The Destruction and Hostile Aliens
The planet's destruction resulted in massive chunks of the crust hurtling towards the moon, obliterating all settlements and bases on the near side, while lower velocity rocks and shattered orbital debris rained down on the far side. The containment measures were unable to withstand the impact, and once the rubble had cooled, creatures of all types began to emerge onto the lunar surface. Surviving the destruction of your home planet is already an incredibly difficult experience. However, the presence of angry and hostile aliens roaming free on the landscape makes it an even more dangerous and unpleasant situation.
